Application of H2S in paper production
When combined react with alkali metal bases, hydrogen sulfide rapidly converts to alkaline hydrosulfide as sodium hydrosulfide and sodium sulfide forms:
- H2S + NaOH → NaSH + H2O
- NaSH + NaOH → Na2S + H2O
These compounds are used in the paper industry. Specifically, the salt of SH - will break the link between the lignin and cellulose components of the pulp in the Kraft process.
Sodium sulfide is reversible in the presence of acids to hydrosulfide and hydrogen sulfide. This substance provides hydrosulfide in organic solutions and is used in the production of thiophenols.
